December 17

HP 9830A Donation

RCS/RI would like to thank Edith Churnowitz of American Power Jet Co. for the donation of a complete HP 9830A system which includes many options and peripherals such as the HP 9867B Mass Storage. The 9830A is a desktop calculator that runs BASIC. This model dates to about 1972 or so. For more information see the 9830A description at the Museum of HP Calculators.


December 1

Unibus Switch Control

There was a work session today to configure and test a Unibus Switch Control that was donated by Quickware Engineering. The Switch was connected to a pdp-11/44 and another port of the switch will be connected to a VAX-11/750.


November 16

Networking Technology

This Open House featured networking equipment including GTE Telenet (X.25) and Cylink CSU/DSU hardware.


September 21

Symbolics

RCS/RI would like to thank Jeffrey Katz for the generous loan of a complete set of Symbolics documentation. These manuals will be of great use as RCS restores the Symbolics 3600 series LISP Machines, which will be featured at the October Open House. For more information, see the RCS "works in progress" website.

DECmate

The open house topic for today was the pdp-8. RCS worked on the DECmate series of CMOS-8 based systems and made progress on restoring the DECmate I and DECmate II.


MicroVAX 3600

RCS/RI has installed OpenVMS v7.2 on a MicroVAX 3600. The system is now fully functional.


August 17

RISC systems

Ultrix was installed on a DECstation 5000 and AIX was installed on two RS/6000 systems.


June 15

Teletype

RCS/RI worked on the Teletype ASR-33.


April 20

DEC pdp-11 Mini-Computers

RCS/RI worked on two pdp-11 minicomputers - a pdp-11/34 and a pdp-11/44.


March 16

PDP-11 Micro-Computers

Today's Open House featured PDP-11 based micro-computers such as the PDT-11/150 running RT-11 v4 and two Professional 350 workstations running Venix v1 and RT-11 v5. A special guest presentation by Megan Gentry (maintainer of the Field Guide to Qbus and Unibus Modules) featured two "portable" PDP-11 systems! Digital images taken during the day will be online soon. There were too many PDP-11 related systems to cover in just one afternoon, so we are going to continue the topic with PDP-11 minis for the April Open House


February 17

Ultrix Freeware Development System

RCS/RI is hosting a VAXstation 3100 running Ultrix v4.3 which will be used to build freeware for the Ultrix archive. Visit http://starfish.rcsri.org/ultrix to download GNU software packages for the VAX (and MIPS) architecture. Thanks to Bert DeKnuydt for making these packages available.


January 25

RCS/RI Hosts OSFN Server

RCS/RI is now hosting the main server for the Ocean State Free-Net, a non-profit organization that provides universal free public access to the world of electronic information for the residents of Rhode Island.


January 19

PDP-11/44 Operational

The Digital Equipment Corporation PDP-11/44 has been restored and tested. The machine has booted the RSX-11 and RSTS operating systems. It will be the featured topic for one of the next Open Houses.
