The 2005 RCS/RI |
The Retro-Computing Society of Rhode Island, Inc. hold their monthly Open House on the third Saturday of every month from 10:00am - 4:30pm at their facility in Providence, RI. See the online directions for instructions on how to get there.
Archived calendars for 1998, 1999, 2000 2001, 2002, 2003, and 2004 are available on-line.
Visit our new site at the Atlantic Mills, located at 118 Manton Avenue in Suite 411 on the fourth floor, in Providence.
We will be running a Digital Equipment Corporation VAX-11/750 and related peripherals. This October is the Silver (25th) anniversary of the introduction of the 11/750. (These machines should not be confused with the vacuum cleaner of the same name.) There will also be work on circa 1980 networking equipment including installing 10base5 "ThickWire" Ethernet cable in our new facility.
The latter stages of the stay at Eagle Street, and the move to Atlantic Mills, were somewhat traumatising to the NOVA 840 that belongs to one of our members. Specifically, the machine is coated inside and out with a fine coating of abrasive sawdust, and one of the toggle switches was broken off from the front panel. This month we're going to try to get the machine back in running, or at least runnable, condition.
Each December, RCS/RI celebrates its anniversary. This year marks their 11th year of existence as a working group and their Bronze (8th) Anniversary as a non- profit corporation. This month we will continue work on the systems that were the featured topics of the previous open houses.
